Keeping the Peace

Greetings my friends. I know you've not heard from me in quite a while. I haven't forgotten; but frankly, it's been very difficult trying to find the motivation to put a post together. After all, our country is under seige from within. We are, to put it bluntly, under attack by those who should instead be defending us. Under such circumstances, finding anything to write about that comes close to being on topic for this blog has been challenging.

Yes, I could tell you that Dakini Trading had its best year ever in 2025, and is on track to keep growing (if things don't completely collapse). But at the moment, that seems somewhere between tone deaf and completely freaking irrelevant. What's on trend for spring 2026? Who bloody cares - I don't. And yet, the part of my brain that said I would do this write this blog, keeps nagging at me. I haven't updated since - May? (Did I seriously never get the August post up? apparently not) - tho not for lack of trying. Maybe I can manage to keep this post from joining the other half-finished drafts in a forgotten folder.

What finally convinced me I ought to make another attempt was this notion - well, two things, really. One, in times like these having a peaceful home to retreat to isn't just important; it's absolutely vital to our wellbeing. And two, what are we on the streets marching for if not the safety and sanctity of our homes?

I very much doubt that anyone reading this thinks that immigrants are the ones threatening that peace. After all, unless you are Native American, every single one of us is descended from immigrants to these shores. Some came here fleeing religious persecution, some economic instability. Some - too many - had their ancestors brought here against their wills. But until the current criminal regime took power (there's no point disguising how I feel about it, even here) ALL of us were considered Americans. Those who came here in search of a better life in recent years are no different. And what symbolizes a good, better, life? A safe and secure home.

I can't and won't tell you that purchasing vintage items or painting your walls will provide that. At best, they can help by increasing feelings of comfort; and that I fear is all I have to offer you. That a serene living space, however you define that, is important. Having a place to retreat when the world is too much (and it is very much that way as I write). A space that soothes your spirit, and is worth protecting.

I hope that at some point in the near future, I can more comfortably sit down again to write about ways of achieving that in your life. I also look forward to putting more work into my design and handcrafts shops - plus keeping the vintage one rolling along as well. I'll be traveling this spring and may just source some items while I'm on the road. Whether things will have resolved themselves enough that it feels ethical to write about any of that remains to be seen (my astro girlies are saying February in particular might be a doozie, and if that's compared to now? woof).

If you've been here before, I truly appreciate you coming back. If this is your first visit, rest assured this is NOT a typical blog post from me. Feel free to look through the archives for an idea of what passes for 'normal' around this place!

In the mean time, light a candle or perhaps some incense, put on some music you enjoy, and try to keep your little corner of the world as grounded and centered as you can. The world needs as much peaceful energy radiating out into it as we can get right now - and you need it as well. Take care of yourself and each other, and let's see where things stand in another month or so, shall we?
